Crane Mat & Ground Mat Brands: A Buyer's Guide
2026-08-15 · Техническая команда SIGMA
A buyer's map of the crane mat and ground protection mat market — North American HDPE mat brands, Canadian rig mat suppliers, European Fahrplatten brands, and where factory-direct manufacturers fit in.
Mapping a market with more names than product types
Buyers new to ground protection quickly discover the market is more crowded with brand names than it is with actual product categories — most of what is sold as a crane mat, rig mat, or ground protection mat falls into one of a handful of material types, wearing a different label depending on who sells it. This guide maps the names a buyer is likely to run into while sourcing, grouped by what they actually are rather than by marketing copy, so a quote can be compared on substance rather than on which name is printed on the panel. It is organized by region and material, since that is usually a better predictor of price and lead time than the brand itself.
North American HDPE ground mat brands
In the US and Canadian HDPE ground protection space, a handful of names come up repeatedly. AlturnaMats is a widely stocked option for standard panel sizes, covered in more detail in our AlturnaMats alternative guide. DuraDeck ground protection and DuraDeck ground protection mats are known for lightweight, roll-out matting aimed at pedestrian and light-vehicle access. Checkers ground mats and Checkers ground protection cover a broad catalogue spanning construction and event use. TuffTrak mats, sometimes searched as tuff track mats or tuff track mats for sale, along with the tufftrak mats spelling, are positioned around heavy-duty access roadway panels. Euromat ground protection mat and Euromat ground protection round out the field with a catalogue aimed at both construction sites and outdoor events.
Canadian rig mats: timber and steel, a different category
Canadian rig mats come from a separate supplier base serving oilfield and forestry access roads. Acre rig mats and Strad rig mats are among the names that come up most often in that market, building laminated timber and welded steel panels rather than moulded HDPE. Northern rig mats and Anchor rig mats work the same lease-road segment with comparable products. Lister rig mats rounds out the group, and across all of them the panels are sized for heavy tracked equipment on remote ground where a mat may be left in place for a season. It is worth keeping the categories straight when comparing quotes: a timber rig mat and an HDPE ground protection mat solve overlapping problems but are different products with different weight, lifespan, and handling characteristics, and pricing between the two is not directly comparable. Buyers sourcing for a remote oilfield lease road are usually better served comparing within the timber and steel category, while buyers protecting a construction site, utility right-of-way, or event ground are usually better served comparing within the HDPE category above.
Outrigger pad and crane mat brands
For point-load pads under crane and digger derrick outriggers, DICA and Bigfoot are the two most recognized US names, compared in depth in our DICA vs Bigfoot outrigger pads guide. Viking crane mats and Fibermax crane pads are two further names buyers may come across while sourcing crane standing platforms, each with its own catalogue of standard sizes and ratings.
Europe: HDPE Fahrplatten brands
In the German and wider European market, HDPE road and ground plates — known locally as Fahrplatten — are sold under their own set of brand names. LuxTek is a well-known supplier in this space, alongside Securatek and HKL, both established names for HDPE ground and road plates used on German and Central European construction sites. The category is the same HDPE ground protection panel sold under North American brand names, just labelled and distributed differently for the local market, and European buyers comparing quotes can generally apply the same size-thickness-material checklist used above rather than treating the region as a separate product category.
Where factory-direct manufacturers fit in
Behind most of the brand names above sits a smaller number of actual crane mat manufacturers producing the HDPE panels that get relabelled and resold. For a buyer ordering by the container rather than by the pallet, going direct to one of these crane mat companies cuts out a layer of distributor margin, and it is how many of the access matting companies listed above source their own stock in the first place. We manufacture HDPE crane mats and ground protection panels factory-direct, which is worth comparing against any branded quote once order volume is large enough to justify a production run. All trademarks belong to their respective owners. SIGMA is an independent manufacturer and is not affiliated with the brands mentioned.
